Peter Robbins – Jupiter Town Council Candidate, 1st District
What are the top three issues facing Jupiter and what are your plans to address them?
We have to focus on keeping Jupiter safe. Ensuring that our police department is innovative and forward-looking in much-needed to ensure we’re staying one step ahead of criminals. I am the only candidate in this race endorsed by our first responders, having received the backing of the Police Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police and the International Association of Fire Fighters.
We also have to show leadership on the environment, especially water quality. It’s unacceptable to have Jupiter businesses closed due to red tide, like we did last year, and we have to work regionally to understand and deal with toxic algae. My stance on this issue is one reason I have been endorsed by the Jupiter/Tequesta/Hobe Sound Miami Realtors, who recognize the impact this issue could have on home values and our overall economy.
Thirdly, protecting open space is critical. I have been an early supporter of the open space initiative on the ballot, and would propose a citizen task force to identify and prioritize parcels for possible investment. This issue is critical to protecting unique Jupiter’s character and charm.
Why are you the right person to hold this office?
I am running for Town Council because I love Jupiter and want to make it an even better place to live, work and play. My wife and I are raising our family here, and we want it to continue to be a safe, vibrant and beautiful place. I am currently a volunteer on the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission and am a member of the Arc of Palm Beach County’s Board of Trustees. The Arc is just one of the many local charities that my wife and I support. I have a long track record of giving back to the community, and I see Town Council as a way to give back even more.
As a Town Council member, I will always listen, I will be active in the community and I’ll be effective. I’ve proven that I have these three qualities as a Planning and Zoning member and in my campaign.
What is your overall vision when it comes to Jupiter?
I want Jupiter to be a safe, thriving community. We are very fortunate to live here, and we have a town that is a destination for people from all over south Florida and the world. My vision for Jupiter includes protecting our small-town charm while growing a sustainable and diverse economy.
Peter Robbins is running for Jupiter Town Council, District 1, in the March 12, 2019 election.
